It's great that people volunteer to do work like this. Especially something that would require skilled workers to perform such a task. I always donate to the national trust in the preservation of our treasured forests and historical sights.

This is fantastic news; Drogo is perfect for bees!
We keep Buckfast bees in Modified Dadant hives; these are Dadant hives modified for the Buckfast bees and can hold up to 85,000 occupants while a National holds around 50,000. Buckfast bees are so prolific that the larger hives are required to reduce their tendency to swarm; keep it in mind before you change over! Dadants may be an odd size and not as commonly used as Nationals, but the Buckfast lot do like them and commerical bee keepers use them for a reason!

Hi John
Just to say that the fungi has been spectacular this year and far more in quantity and species than usual (not a scientific comment just an observation). I was interested in the satellite sized white fungi on many paths but particularly the one to the right of the stream in the centre of the woods along which some enterprising kids have created jumps for their horses from felled timber-quite interesting to negotiate in the half light. Soon these paths will be inaccessible so am walking them every day. Dismayed as ever by the prospect of losing my favourite walk down to the river overhung by larches.

The weather looks fabulous. I wish I was at Castle Drogo instead of in the Middle East. It's very hot and humid. I miss the splendour of the Devon countryside and the walks around Castle Drogo are stunning.
